Event Dates: October 26, 2013

Description of Event

One day a year in October, Atmore steps back in time to 1866 when it was once called Williams Station, just a small supply stop along the Mobile and Great Northern railroad.  Join Atmore as it honors its rich heritage at Williams Station Day, a regional event that celebrates the importance of the railroad in the life of this community.  The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce and YMCA are housed in a beautiful 1926 Georgian style building located on historical Pensacola Avenue which acts as the Center Stage for the day's activities.

Truly a family event, Williams Station Day offers something for almost everyone.  Listen or join in at the all-day jam session in the Fiddler's Tent, featuring some of the area's best musicians.  Fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass and mandolin players perform in this up-close "get to know the musician" setting.  Or, start your Christmas shopping early by spending the day with the fine artists and crafters lining almost two blocks of Pensacola Avenue.  Step up close and observe artisans who demonstrate pottery, basket weaving, quilting, etc.  Experience a real old-time cane mill.  You may even want to take a container of the freshly squeezed cane juice home to enjoy later.

Enjoy a leisurely hayride from the main festival site.  Riders will be able to stop off at Atmore Heritage Park and get a closer look at the antique cars on display.  When you return from the hayride, don't forget to step inside the YMCA and take a look at the model train exhibit.  Kids of all ages will enjoy viewing the different scale layouts brought by true train enthusiasts.  Children's activities, a 5k run, pumpkin painting/carving contest, plenty of delicious food and a day of blues, country and gospel entertainment featured on the Center Stage is all part of Williams Station Day.

So, grab the family and come join us in Atmore for Williams Station Day which is always held the fourth Saturday in October.  Atmore is an easy hour's drive from almost anywhere in Baldwin, Monroe, Escambia and Conecuh Counties and only an hour's drive from Mobile and Pensacola too.
